The Future of America!

Dear ASLF Supporters,

The ASLF Selection Committee is fresh off reading 225+ applications for summer apprenticeships, breaking through any preconceived stereotypes of the so-called TikTok generation. We read essays about food sovereignty, sustainable and regenerative farming, and leaving behind a livable earth. We read about desires to get hands dirty on behalf of others, growing healthy food and making it accessible, and starting sustainable businesses that transform communities. We read from individuals seeking non-traditional and less predictable paths that embrace fairness, equity, and dignity. We can tell you firsthand that the future is in good hands.

We were touched, inspired, humbled and left our meetings emboldened that ASLF is on the right path and will continue to thrive. Our applicants come from vastly different backgrounds, Ivy League to Trade Schools, pastry chefs to gardeners. Over 70% of the group are from marginalized communities. Last year too this was the first and largest group to demonstrate solidarity with the plight of our young organization which started under sad and challenging circumstances.

Our job now is to pair these passionate changemakers with our 40+ host farms – thinking about where they will live and work and form unbreakable bonds, getting pushed to their limits and discovering their potential. Their lives will never be the same.

Please consider a donation. $5,000 sends one fully sponsored apprentice to a farm but every donation counts.

This year’s applicants were written letters of reference by hundreds of amazing thought leaders from university program department heads, to teachers, to nonprofit directors, and chefs. Thank you to everyone on the list below who participated!
